All this because Regina expressed interest in a guy in her private diary, it could also be argued that he’s acted like this before because Regina managed to anticipate and plan for this reaction and based her whole plan around it. Leopold also reacts to the possibility that Regina is interested in or in love with someone else (it’s been a while since I watched the episodes but I’m pretty sure the diary only mentions that she thinks she’s in love not that she’s actively cheated on him) he reacts by locking her up and preventing her father from seeing her and ordering that the man she’s in love with be found and brought before him. I’m pretty sure most of the abusive Leopold stuff comes from the episode that explains Sidney/the magic mirror/the genies origins, where he reads Regina’s diary, going through her personal possessions and the fantasy equivalent of checking her phone or FB, which is pretty controlling in itself and indicative of an abusive relationship.

So it’s entirely possible that she spent as little time as possible around both of them. We know that Regina wasn’t interested in Leopold and she didn’t want to be around Snow. When would he have had time to abuse her? In between trips to far off lands with Snow? If anything, I’d imagine that she would have said something along the lines of not wanting to spend another night with him. If he was always gone and he always ignored her, then I doubt he abused her. Anything is possible though.īut I do know one thing: that only proves that there probably wasn’t any abuse taking place. Who knows? We don’t know why Regina was alone in the castle all of those times we saw her. Some people will say it’s because Leopold left her, then you have some people who believe that maybe Regina chose to stay out of her own free will. Every time we saw the flashbacks to that time period, she was alone in the castle. Until people started talking about it a lot, I only assumed that Regina just never connected with him in that way. I’ve never really thought about Leopold and Regina honestly. Maybe you will be more open to the idea of her being redeemed. If you believe that this happened to Regina, then maybe you might understand why she became evil. People often use that theory to somehow soften you up. If you make a backstory tragic enough, then people will be so sympathetic that you can get a pass for all of the horrible things you’ve done. I’m pretty sure there are some ERs who don’t believe that happened, but I’ve never met any.Īgain, people will latch on to anything that will justify Regina’s actions. It’s a very popular headcanon among ERs though. There is none there isn’t any evidence supporting that idea period.
